Creating Dashboards in Tableau

One of the most basic, yet most useful tools in Tableau is the ability to create exciting dashboards.  For those that don't know, a dashboard is simply a tool for displaying multiple graphs, pictures, and text on the same screen.  Tableau is an exceptional tool for this and I will explain how to create a simple dashboard.  For these examples, we use the Superstore Sales sample data set in Tableau.

Step 1:
  • Create your graphs using separate worksheets.

Sales by Sub-category
Step 2:
  • Create a new dashboard by opening the menus, Dashboard -> New Dashboard.
Step 3:
  • Drag your graphs from the left panel onto the dashboard and place them where you want.

Now you've created a simple dashboard in Tableau.  There are so many things you can do with this now.  Try editing the titles or moving the color legend around.  If you are feeling adventurous, you can add quick filters to your data or create actions.  Thanks for reading.
